NOVEMBER

NOVEMBER

The November 2025 issue of the Journal of Law and Economics tackles critical legal, social, and economic problems across Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Opening with an examination of village fund management in Galung Village, Barru Regency, the volume questions whether current allocation systems genuinely drive local development, while a study on Fore Coffee's service quality reveals Generation Z consumer expectations in Surabaya's competitive market. Several articles expose vulnerabilities in child protection, from legal inadequacies surrounding children exploited as beggars in Bandar Lampung City to the troubling intersection of social norms and economic pressures driving unregistered child marriages in Sukaresmi Village. The balance between free expression and legal boundaries under the 2016 Information and Electronic Transactions Law receives sharp scrutiny, particularly regarding government criticism on social media platforms. Religious and family law occupy substantial space through analyses of Indonesia's professional zakat calculation system, child custody disputes following apostasy-related divorces, marriage dispensation requests for pregnant minors, and post-divorce child protection rights—all revealing tensions between statutory provisions and Islamic legal principles. Digital-age concerns emerge through investigations of personal data breaches during East Jakarta regional elections and the application of unlawful acts doctrine in e-commerce consumer protection, both demanding stronger regulatory frameworks. An empirical study challenges conventional wisdom by documenting the U-shaped impact of 12% VAT implementation on Indonesian purchasing power during January-June 2025, while a systematic review examines barriers and possibilities for Cambodian informal SMEs attempting to enter the formal economy. Collectively, these studies demand substantive reforms across legal systems, social policies, and economic strategies to address persistent inequalities and governance failures
